The British Trust for Ornithology has decided to update the Bird Winter and Breeding Atlases that were last published  about 20 years ago. To get the information needed  a 4 year survey will commence on 1st Nov 2007 and end on the 31st July 2011. The survey will mean getting volunteers to survey as many tetrads(an area of land measuring 2km wide and 2km high) in the UK, So as to get an accurate understanding of the numbers of birds that breed and winter in the UK.

The two links below will put you through to the B.T.O website and give all the information needed to take part in this very important survey:

Timed Tetrad Visits - record all the birds you see and hear in a 2km x 2km square. Visit for an hour or more in the winter and breeding season.

Roving Records - any bird, anytime, anywhere.
If you see it, record it, and we'll map it.

The survey has also given the Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers the opportunity to use this information to publish a much needed updated report on the Birds of Nottingham as the last one was published as long ago as  1975.
