Great Cormorant - Common Resident

Eurasian Bittern - Very rare .3 Records on Holme Pit 27th/28th Dec 1998/3rd March 2007 & several dates throughout Nov 2007

Little Egret – scarce. 2 birds seen mating in Branshill Wood (25th May 2005). 3 birds over Barton Flash September 2006. Several sightings in 2007. sightings are becoming more frequent. 

Grey Heron - Common Resident , Large Heronry at Branshill Wood

White Stork - 1 Record soaring over Clifton Bridge

Mute Swan - Resident

Bewick's Swan - Scarce and irregular winter visitor

Whopper Swan - Scarce and irregular winter visitor

Pink-Footed Goose - uncommon passage migrant. 4 skeins over Clifton grove over 1000 birds in total 31/01/2005. 4 birds in fields Barton in fabis 31/01/2005.

Greylag Goose - Increasingly common resident

Canada Goose - common resident

Egyptian Goose -scarce resident 

Common Shelduck - scarce a few fly over birds seen only

Eurasian Wigeon - winter visitor

Gadwall - common in the winter months on holme pit possible resident

Eurasian Teal - common winter visitor

Mallard - common resident

Gargany - scarce a pair were resident in barton-in-fabis in 1999 and may have made a unsuccessful breeding attempt. 1 bird seen on Branshill Ponds 15/09/07

Northern Shoveler - fairly common winter visitor

Hen Harrier – very rare visitor. a female bird was seen over fields near Beeston Weir November 2006

Northern Goshawk - very rare visitor 1 bird seen catch a woodpigeon on the edge of branshill wood

Eurasian Sparrowhawk - common resident

Red-Tailed Hawk - an adult bird has been in the branshill wood area of barton-in-fabis since January 2006

Osprey - rare passage migrant. 1 bird seen in the Barton area 29th & 30/04/07

Golden Plover - Fairly common . often seen in fields in the winter months

Northern Lapwing - common resident and passage migrant

Jack Snipe - scarce winter visitor. seen a number of times in the wet marsh area.

Woodcock - scarce. possible resident but only 1 sighting 26/03/2006 flushed in clifton wood.

Black-Tailed Godwit - scarce passage migrant. 13 flyover birds 07/08/2006. 7 birds feeding on Barton Fash 29/07/07

Whimbrel - scarce/rare passage migrant

Eurasian Curlew - scarce . only a few flyover birds seen

Common Redshank - scarce . only a few flyover birds seen

Greenshank - scarce . 1 sighting at Barton Flash 12/08/2007
